OCTOBER SALES DETAILS:BluetongueThe introduction of Protection Zone status from the 1 st of September 2008 for the whole of Wales now means there are currently no Blue Tongue movement restrictions covering our area. Which now also allows cross border movements, which is important for some members selling at the Knighton sale. This change as well as allowing members from all areas to sell cattle at both sales, will also allow buyer support from throughout Wales and now the whole of England. With regards Bluetongue vaccination early indications suggest buyers are expressing a preference for vaccinated cattle. To ensure full buyer competition for all cattle we recommend vendors vaccinate their suckled calves before the sale, although this is not compulsory. Therefore the sale entry form includes a section to complete re vaccination status and dates of treatment. Please note for cattle the vaccination procedure is two injections, administered three to four weeks apart (depending on the brand used). Vaccine can be ordered from your local Vet with whom you can confirm treatment details. Additional vaccination information is available on: www.defra.gov.uk/animalh
